The state of our justice system here in the UK is in turmoil. In fact, I’d say it’s the biggest cock-up for the past century. The Home Secretary is telling the Judges that they shouldn’t lock people up unless they’re really ‘dangerous’ because we don’t have the prison places for them.
But that’s not the real story as far as I’m concerned. Last night I saw something that literally made me sick, I couldn’t believe I was hearing it. If you remember, there was a paper (News of the World) editor, Clive Goodman I believe, who had been eavesdropping on the Princes’ cellphone calls. The editor in charge of the royal section was taken to court, found pleaded guilty, and yesterday he was sentenced to four months in prison. Four months. For cellphone tapping. And oh yeah, his boss Andy Coulson resigned too.
In a news article not five minutes later they were telling us how a paedophile was given a suspended sentence and told to stay in his house from 8am until 5pm!
Now take those two stories together, with the knowledge that the Judges were told to only lock up the ‘dangerous’ people. How is a newspaper editor more dangerous than a paedophile? It appears that I’m not the only one that thinks this either: Capella, Pilton, to name a few.
And Mr Blair has apparently lost his patience, proferring his ‘complete confidence‘ in the Home Secretary (the kiss of death). Mr Reid will be consigned to the back benches in no time, we can suppose.
