I had a chance today to work for a client setting up a small wireless and wired network all in one. It used a D-Link modem, replacing his Speedtouch 330 modem. Then it’s connected to a 3Com Officeconnect Wireless 54Mbps 1 Cable/Dsl Router.
At first the modem wouldn’t dial up properly to Eclipse but after an hour or so of messing around with it, switching with the modulation, the VLI/VCI etc., and calling them, it connected. After tweaking it a bit more it was more like ADSL speeds.
Then came the real challenge, connecting two computers with wires, and a laptop wirelessly. And of course, securing the whole thing. That took just over an hour. But I have to say, that even through one or two walls in the office building, then a good solid brick wall or two in the house, the wireless signal reached through with 5 full bars.
It was an experience, definately.
