Went out last night with Oli and Adam, painting the town red. Boy oh boy.. I’m so glad I had a pint of water and an aspirin when I came in in the wee hours of the morning.

The shower I just took certainly made things a bit better too, but I still have that slight fogginess one gets after a night out. I think I’ll go do some shopping and walk around town, that’ll probably help!

Noah must have looked across the landscape before the floods and I bet it was one of those rare moments when the sky cleared and he saw sunshine, white fluffy clouds high up, and a blue sky beyond. That’s right now, it’s so beautiful outside. Makes a change from the drenching I got this morning walking to work.

Oh yes, did I mention that we have rain, rain and more rain due in the next few days? More flooding expected. They were cleaning out the River Lud tonight, getting rid of the rubble that had built up, and it’s about time. Wrong place mind you, because just near McLeod’s where the river goes underneath the bridge there’s loads of rubble there too. If it floods there, all of Westgate, Eastgate, Mercer Row and the main centre of town will flood…

God Help Us.

Although given his stringent control of the purse strings it might be a worthwhile experience. I do not like Labour, although I suspect that this stems from growing up during the Thatcher years and seeing Labour’s stance on the unions, and their support of strikes, higher taxes etc.,

If had more charisma I might be more supportive of him, and if he came out and said that he wanted to hold an election right away to validate his new position, that would be good. But he hasn’t, he’s assumed power and it’s almost like he has the arrogant stance that he’s earned it. Frankly, I always thought that Prime Ministers served at OUR pleasure (even though strictly speaking they serve at Her Majesty’s pleasure…) So much for a democracy …

‘Rain’ doesn’t quite describe it well. It has been pouring it down yesterday and today.

So much so that this morning I went in to work early so I could get a lift from Oli. It was torrential. It was at work that we heard that the River Lud had broke its banks and started flooding low-lying areas of Louth. Not much, but enough to let people off work (not us though). Broadbank, just by the local supermarket (which I assume, was also flooded since it’s on the same level), looks awful as you can see from the picture.

We swung by Paddy‘s house tonight, his house is maybe thirty feet from the river. It was high, very high.

The worst news is – we’re in for another night of it. More, and presumably worse, flooding.

I am thankful I live the other end of town. Gospelgate might get it in some really bad flooding, but probably not this.

A month or so ago I had the opportunity to go over to and read his blog. There, I found a link to , and chatted with him for a bit about making money blogging. Most of us who blog like to monetize it, who doesn’t like making a bit of money from ?

But Pay Per Post gives bloggers the opportunity to write about more than what you do daily, you have the chance to learn about different subjects and write about your experiences with them. That’s why I think I’m going to make a serious effort to use them more.

I’ll be altering this blog theme a little bit to accomodate the Pay Per Post articles, but it won’t change much, just showing a few more posts on the front page (in much shorter versions).

I came across this letter of the day on , and thought I should mention it on here. I mean come on, talk about focusing on the wrong thing. That being said though, what CAN an agony aunt really say about that? Especially given this day and age (in the Western world at least) where pretty much everything goes and you daren’t say anything bad about one kind of lifestyle…

We’re having a series of those summer storms right now. The kind that sweep in, let loose huge quantities of water in deluges then all of a sudden it’s bright and sunny again. Right now, as I write, it’s that pale yellow kind of dark light just before a storm – the few spots of rain make it seems almost peaceful, but the cracks of thunder coming from the other side of the street and beyond really let you know what’s in store.

The river Lud is getting a little flush now, and yesterday we had flood warnings. Unluckily for us Louth sits on the edge of the wolds (what counts as ‘mountains’ in this area), so all the water in the area will come through the town. So it’s a worry…

And now here it comes, the dark clouds, the rain is getting harder and thicker, and the thunder is nearly overhead. I think I might shut the ‘puter down now …

I’ve always wondered what the point of (modern) time capsules is. I mean we can just rent DVDs to watch what life was like 50 years ago, right? 50 years ago mind you, they couldn’t do that so much, and before that it would have appeared much more of a gap.

Today a Plymouth Belvedere was unearthed from it’s grave outside the Tulsa courthouse. (see the original images of it being buried here)

As MSNBC writes, there were other things buried that provide the real snapshot of the life people lived in the late 1950′s:

Also buried with it were 10 gallons of gasoline — in case internal combustion engines became obsolete by 2007 — a case of beer, and the contents of a typical woman’s handbag placed in the glove compartment: 14 bobby pins, a bottle of tranquilizers, a lipstick, a pack of gum, tissues, a pack of cigarettes, matches and $2.43.

Hehe in case internal combustion engines became obsolete… What WERE they thinking?

Got up this morning, you know how it is, fumbling around for the alarm clock (my cellphone). Stumbling downstairs, half awake, turned the shower on, went through to the kitchen to put the kettle on, turned on the TV to watch a little news. Sat there for a few mins, went through to jump in the shower. YEOWW!! Water is -cold- OMG!

Let me tell you, cold showers are nice in hot climates, but when you’re in -England- it’s not so pleasant. But it sure does wake you up…

Yes, the boiler’s on the blink. Darned thing won’t heat the water up (and thus no central heating either but that’s no biggie). *sigh*

It was one of those murky days today, ya know? So humid it was stifling.

Then this afternoon the heavens opened. It poured down like nobody’s business. We shut the ‘puters down and waited for the storm to pass.

The bad news is, it’ll be like this for days, more storms on the way.
