So the other day I was browsing through the questions and answers section of and I came across a question asking if there were invites to . I thought, ‘what is Pownce?’ Well it’s a new messaging system that is trying to break through the surface and it lets you share files, links, events, and so on with your friends. More importantly it’s like a cross between a messaging service and a bulletin board, because you can broadcast something to your entire network, but you get to choose who.

Not much different from say, MSN, AIM, and the others that you can find out there. Except the interface, which is rather slick and nicely designed. Assuming you like the new colours schemes for Web 2.0, dull browns, mauves, the little used colours in computer circles. Which actually in itself is witty and cutting, since it’s high time we found something new instead of chromes, bright colours and positive colouring schemes all the time. The messaging shows in the client btw, but to reply you click on the message and it takes you to the web thread of that message.

I got the invite (thanks Amie Devero!) and now I’m trying it out. Had to download the Adobe AIR package, no biggie. Had to download the Pownce client itself, no problemo. Then it wouldn’t connect, which I finally figured out was my pitbull of a firewall preventing it. Got in, finally. Spread the word I though, get some friends interested, so I have.

Paddy got an invite. Mac you’re getting an invite. So I have some left. Anyone I know want one?
