Alistair Darling almost seemed to be apologising as if he lost the 25 million entries from a social security database. It’s not your fault, Darling.

Just curious though – how did 2 discs holding the 25 million names, records, and data, go missing exactly? Where were they? Who was handling them?

The BBC tells it:

MPs gasped as Mr Darling told them: “The missing information contains details of all Child Benefit recipients: records for 25 million individuals and 7.25 million families. ”

Gasped? Half of them maybe, but I bet the Tories were rubbing their hands gleefully, and with obvious reason… Darling, I think your boss needs to call an election, don’t you?
