I sometimes honestly question whether we really invented the game of football.
Tonight’s pathetic performance against Croatia has to be one of the most lacklustre games I have ever seen. Nothing original, no innovation, no verve, nothing that really shines. Oli doesn’t think it’s all the manager’s fault (as I said even Oli could do a better job of managing England) but also the players. I have to grudgingly admit he may be right.
Williams though, was one of the few that really tried, and Crouch. Beckham should have been on since the start. Rooney should have been on. McLaren really made some bad decisions.
If you play the game, you should play it to win, not to give some other mediocre players a cap. Put your best out, let them shine, give them the experience. Sooner or later they’ll tire and fade, then others will take their place, that’s the way of things.
