Astoundingly, tonight’s news was all on the same subjects.

That’s the BBC, ITV1 and Channel 5 – all had the same stories tonight. Is there something wrong with journalists, do they have to copy each other’s stories? Do they travel in flocks where they have to gather the same news?

There was a bit of a thing about the that people have been experiencing, cars breaking down and seizing up etc., there was the story about Mr Clarke and Mr Milburn perhaps putting up a fight to Mr Brown, and there was the Airbus story.

I always though, or perhaps that should be assumed, that the people (in the UK) vote for a person as Prime Minster. But rather, they vote for a party and the person that leads that party. If that person resigns/retires etc., then the party votes in a new person to lead.

Seems a bit unfair though, to my thinking. Seems to me that we should have more of a definite system like the Americans, where you have a Vice-President, a definate second who’ll take over if the first goes.

Today though, it seems Mr Brown has some contenders. Charles Clarke and Alan Milburn have created a website outlining their vision for the Labour party (differing somewhat from mine I have no doubt), with the popular press saying that they are putting up competition for the leadership of the Labour party against Mr Brown. I don’t see a problem with that. Why should he just waltz into office? And let’s not forget about David Miliband, a youthful replacement for the aging Mr Blair.

Here’s the opener to their vision, from their website (should that be 2020 Vision, when they next see any kind of significant power after the next election?):

Politics is about the future not the past. After ten years in office Labour needs a new vision and new policies if we are to successfully meet the future challenges faced by our country and the wider world. Winning future elections requires us to renew ourselves intellectually, politically and organisationally.

My my where have I heard that kind of waffle political rhetoric before? Oh that’s right, every other disgruntled politicians seeking the highest office in the land.

Good luck Mr Clarke, Mr Milburn, and Mr Miliband, I think you’re going to need it.

Yeah! Woohoo! Not that it’s many thousands of pounds mind you, but it IS something to look forward to.

Looking forward to this Friday, we’re celebrating Oli’s birthday. So a few of us from work, and lots of his other friends, are off to Lincoln for a few jars. Yay!

I think that I might go looking for a new jacket, been wanting one for a long time now.

Jack, Paddy‘s baby boy that I wrote about last night, is now being renamed as ‘Just Jack’ on .

This might get the little tyke a little bit more playtime and some interest. You never know, you might be looking at the first screen tests of the next Jack Nicholson or Keanu Reeves. :)

Actually I say ‘quiet’ only because I was looking after the parent’s house for the weekend. They went away for a quiet weekend to Newmarket, and I got the day off on Friday and looked after Jodie (their dog). I took the laptop hoping that their internet would just ‘hook up’ with mine, but I forgot that I removed the necessary software.

So it was a weekend of SkyTV, which wasn’t necessarily so bad.

This morning however was so beautiful, with the mist hanging over the fields and the (very) early sun giving everything a rich amber hue. And surprisingly, the temperature wasn’t bad either, I didn’t need a coat when I walked Jodie.

Thought you might have a laugh out of this, my friend messaged me tonight with a link. Thinking it was something he’d found I was amused to see he had a video of his son Jack on there! Anyway, have a giggle, I did. I thought at first that the ‘noise’ was him (Paddy) but it’s actually Jack

A friend of mine, Oli, had his birthday yesterday. He got an iPod Shuffle as a birthday present.

The problem is however, that he never got any software with his Shuffle. Apparently, that’s how it comes. So I downloaded the s software install package onto my flash drive, went over tonight and installed it on his laptop.

It went on fine, but for some reason when he’s moving songs from his iTunes library to his iPod Shuffle, it just hangs then stops. After downloading many Windows updates the problem still exists, so it’s a bit of quandry. Anyone got any hints or helpful links?

Update: I fixed it. I removed the iTunes, then installed a plugin for Winamp called . Now the Winamp can see the iPod when it’s attached, and you can move music onto it. Voila, c’est fin.

Finally, they say, equality at last in tennis major tournaments! Women are going to be paid the same as men, at least so far as Wimbledon is concerned.

My question is though – is there going to be equal play? I mean, don’t men play 5 sets and women play 3 sets? Surely if the pay is now equal shouldn’t the play be equal too?

I’m all for supporting Wimbledon‘s action of course, and I hope that this follows through for all other sports where women and men can play on a par without having any physical handicaps.

Here’s what the lady herself said:

I would have preferred iron, but bronze will do.

This is just after Baroness Thatcher unveiled a statue of herself at the Houses of Parliament. What a gal eh? Her (bronze) statue actually stands opposite that of Winston Churchill, most fitting really.

I have a great deal of respect for her, growing up during her reign.

Or rather, Rusi Taleyarkhan, the fellow who postulated the idea and carried out the experiment and then published it, all to see his work mocked and derided, has been exonerated. His experiments have been replicated by Edward Forringer of LeTourneau University in Texas – so here’s hoping that they go much further with bubble fusion and save us from this insanity of burning carbon fuels for energy.
