The article title says it all, well actually not – because in this case, a woman accused of, and convicted of, witchcraft, has been sentenced to DEATH! Can you believe that? In this day and age, someone actually getting the death penalty for witchcraft?

Well we are talking about Saudi Arabia here, where a woman was sentenced to prison and lashes because she got raped (not for the rape, but because she was alone without a male family member). Not exactly the most advanced nation on earth, or the most lenient and forward-thinking.

The BBC reports:

Among her accusers was a man who alleged she made him impotent.

Yes, and that’s a hanging offence, mi’lord.

Its letter to King Abdullah says the woman was tried for the undefined crime of witchcraft and that her conviction was on the basis of the written statements of witnesses who said that she had bewitched them.

Imagine the insane craziness you could get up to if you can get people convicted for just saying they did something! Without evidence! Great place this Saudi Arabia.

When an appeal court decided she should not be executed, the law courts imposed the death sentence again, arguing that it would be in the public interest.

Wow, so basically she’s screwed, even the appeal courts’ decisions can be overturned. How many more centuries before Saudi Arabia joins the modern world?
