… when he should have had a noose and a long drop.
What a pity that we don’t have the death penalty anymore in this country. I suppose we should be “thankful” that we’re such an advanced country that we no longer believe in an eye for an eye. But I can’t help thinking that with the rate of recidivism that we have, that our prison system is useless. Isn’t the whole point of it to prevent further crime, and/or to reform those who have committed crimes? I’m beginning to doubt that – I think it’s just about punishment – in which we case we may as well have hanging for murderers.
There are plenty of candidates for it – the three youths recently convicted for stomping to death a man – this suffolk strangler – the particularly nasty individuals who murder children (I can’t recall any but they’re all disgusting).
