I had a “friend” on msn contact me today. Let’s call her ‘Paula’.

I say friend, but really she was just someone I worked with a long time ago, she was the mistress of my ex-business partner, a real piece of work. She did his dirty work, she did his bidding, she was his method of control, and she thought that everything was fine with us when everything went sour. Thoroughly unlikeable.

I got a message from her a month or so back, and then today, saying I should check a site out. The site? It’s block checker cont dot com. Basically, gives out the vibe that you can check who has blocked you on msn.

Guess what the scam is yet?

It asks for your msn username and password so you can see who has blocked you. ROTFL! I’m guessing someone hacked her account and this is them trying to get more.

Why does low calorie stuff ALWAYS taste worse than the original?

I’m having a nice relaxing drink, vodka and lemon bitters. Except stupid me I picked up the low calorie version of lemon bitters – I nearly spewed the mouthful out when I took a swig earlier! It tastes absolutely awful!

Keefe mentioned at work that the shops should have a section for normal (high fat, high sugar, whatever) foods, and then a section for their low calorie “healthy” equivalents. Not a bad idea actually. Most of us would be standing in front of the “real” stuff, drooling and/or wistfully dreaming, knowing that the “healthy” stuff is what we should be getting.

It’s good to see that our high and mighty (Prince Harry) are in the trenches with the rest of us plebs, don’t you think? I doubt you’d see any Bush scion serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, and we know that Clinton avoided that era’s war quite deftly (as did Bush incidentally).

I hope Prince Harry doesn’t get hurt/injured/killed/captured mind you, that would be a debacle to say the least. I don’t think the Taleban would be merciful – in contrary to the Quran of course. You have to admire him though, he’s wanted to serve on the front lines, said he would quit if not allowed, and obviously stuck to his guns.

The other day at work, someone came in for a bit of doing on their van. We have good prices and we do some really great work on liveries, so you can see why that’s nothing special. Anyway, it was a friend of Paddy‘s and they got talking, and we got talking, and eventually the whole conversation got around to the topic of mortgages.

Well he was saying how he paid something like £400 for a while on an interest-only mortgage. As you might imagine, that’s quite a good price here. Even on an average wage of say £15K/yr (we’re in an agricultural area, not exactly London wages here) that’s good. I pay about the same in rent. Yes, I know, I need to buy a house.

Then he said that he had switched to another kind of mortgage, a repayment mortgage I think, and he’s now paying over £700 a month! Bloody hell, I nearly choked! Unbelievable!

I’ve taken a look at the properties listed in the real estate agents in town and some of them are just downright crazy. So much for a downturn in property prices, let me tell you, it’s nonsense. Small farmsteads and houses out in the sticks going for half a million, Lincolnshire must be -the- place to live these days!

I’m going to seriously take a look at buying my own place though, I’ll have to get a whole load of mortgage quotes, it’s going to be a nightmare.

Apparently, and notice I say that word apparently, we had an earthquake last night. And it was about oooh, 12 miles down the road where the epicentre was (Market Rasen). Not that I knew of course, because like most people at 1am I was fast asleep. And I can sleep through hurricanes, tornadoes etc., so a little earthquake really isn’t going to do much.

My brother said the house was shaking, my niece woke up screaming. Work-mates said they woke up or their spouses did, the bloody news has been talking non stop about it, all these people saying chimneys fell down, houses shook, and so on. Not here, at least not here for me.

So all in all, it was a pretty disappointing earthquake in the UK.

The other night a friend of mine was telling me, or rather starting to tell me, about the fourth season of Lost. I begged off, I didn’t want to hear, because I’m such a fan and you know what it’s like when someone starts to ruin it for you.

Today I watched the first episode. Odd. Thoroughly enjoyable of course! I am so happy American TV provides such good watching, I only wish British TV had such good programming.

I read today about the picture floating around of Obama in somali robes. Lots of talk about this being passed around by Clinton staffers of course, as you would expect.

It does seem rather strange that people would make such a big deal about it to be honest. If you went to China you’d probably, at some point, where one of those richly decorated silk garments that the Chinese used to wear. If you went to India you might wear one of those smart Indian suits with the longer jacket, or if you went to Pakistan you might wear one of those hats lots of Pakistanis wear.

If you wanted to take it to extremes, you could say that it’s terrible that a politician wear an Italian- or French-made suit!

Seriously – who cares?! If Americans didn’t know by now that Obama was brought up as a muslim, you would think with a name like “Obama” or a middle name like “Hussein”, that would give it away!

Will be writing about the jobs I’ve done soon!

ebuzzing

What’s the buzz, I ask?

I found a really good site a few months ago, you get an idea of what is really the latest buzz over at . Some of the weirdest stuff is found there, you can’t believe that bloggers are really talking about this kind of stuff, but they are.

Another site has popped up in the meantime, ebuzzing, and it seems more geared towards bloggers talking about what they like rather than sites telling them what to blog about.

It’s not very often that bloggers really get a chance to write what they want and make some money at it, but why shouldn’t they write passionately and make a living at it? That’s really what ebuzzing is going to let them do, as well as participate in seeing something do well.

A friend of mine is considering taking a year out and going around the world. Not a bad idea for someone who is so young. In a way I’ve already done that, spending ten years or so in the US and other countries.

His idea though, is to go around the world and work overseas in various places. One of those ideas includes a work in Africa, doing all sorts of stuff. Basically you work, get your living accommodations and food taken care of and you get a little money in return.

Asides from getting money and seeing the world, he’ll have an opportunity to gain some new skills and learn about the different cultures he’ll be working with. Quite a learning opportunity, I envy him. He is going to spend a year socking away some money so he has some to spend on the journeys and to live on. Whether he’ll manage to save that much is yet to be seen!
