The scientist who coined the term ‘global warming’, Wallace Broeker, in the 1970’s has come up with a solution to help scrub out all of the CO2 that we are producing – artificial trees. His plan, in full, would cost something like $600Bn a year.

Here’s another idea – what about REAL trees? We have moors in this country that aren’t used for anything, they used to have trees. What about the vast grasslands (steppes) that are generally empty in asia? What about reclaiming the edges of deserts like the chinese have been doing? Plant real trees in these places and it’ll cost a hell of a lot less than $600Bn.

One thing he seems to have overlooked – the artificial trees use plastic. So he advocates getting oil, generating CO2 in creating plastics and artificial trees, to take out the CO2…

If you’ve seen the news lately, you’ll know that NASA managed to land another spacecraft on the planet Mars, the Polar Lander.

The BBC had it on the evening news, quite interesting of course, who isn’t fascinated by the fact that humans have managed to put a tiny spacecraft on another planet (without crashing it)? They explained how it was going to look for signs of ice/water by digging into the surface, then testing it with some equipment.

The amusing part of this is: they finished up by saying, the Polar Lander would have about a 6 month lifespan because that’s when winter comes and … wait for it … the spacecraft would be encased in ice. They even showed it on the animation.

ROTFL. I think we’ve found that ice …

How petty-minded and ridiculous this is: , that maven of what an unfortunately large proportion of the internet believe is culture, has complained about an ad where Rachael Ray is promoting Dunkin’ Donuts. The part she’s complaining about – her scarf, which Michelle believes is a keffiyeh, and thus Dunkin’ Donuts (and presumably Rachael Ray too) are promoting terrorism because (some) terrorists wear it. This picture:

Ridiculous this is, because there must be millions of Arabs/muslims who wear the keffiyeh and they’re not terrorists. Yes, maybe they agree with the Palestinian struggle – and may I ask why wouldn’t they? – a land they inhabited before Israel was formed, and all they want is fair treatment and the creation of a true state – but that doesn’t make them terrorists.

If we were to follow Michelle’s logic, then I assume American television will be pulling any and all programming with actors or images showing the keffiyeh (or a scarf that looks like one) in any form because someone might complain and they want to show their sensitivity. Right?

I suppose newspapers won’t be able to print pictures of someone wearing a keffiyeh either, because that newspaper is so obviously then promoting terrorism and/or stating a political viewpoint (for God’s sake, what American newspaper -doesn’t- have a political stance?!).

Maybe Michelle, you should consider jeans too, I believe a lot of terrorists wear jeans. God those things are just -so- promoting terrorism, it’s written all over them …

We tend to think in our modern 21st century way, that we have discovered every little inch of the planet, and that we know what everything is, and where it is. Not so. There are millions of species we haven’t catalogued, and the sea is as much a mystery to us as the nearest galaxy.

But these pictures just show how much we have to learn. Here’s a still just to show you (the link below has 6 pictures):

It’s pictures of an on the Brazil-Peru border. Amazing really, just imagine what they’re thinking. A plane flying overhead and you’re still living in grass huts like cavemen of old. Some of them are even firing arrows at it, now that would be a war wound to take home.

They even paint themselves from head to toe, it looks like. Some are blackened, some are orange, one appears red. It does make me wonder just how they contact them, do they take soldiers with them just in case? Do they offer them trinkets like the spanish did?

I spent some ten years or more in the US. I lived there, absorbed nearly everything I could, and by far, their politics has to be one of the worst entertainment shows around. And it is just that, don’t kid yourself. There is no electing the best person for the office anymore, there is just electing the person who can get the most money during the run-up.

When they’re in office, it seems that Presidents tend to surround themselves with yes people. As if that ever helped anyone… But they do it nonetheless.

This particular post is directed at something I read today while browsing the various websites I frequent, Yahoo! News to be precise, and there was an article about the former White House Press Secretary. He’s just brought out a book, scathingly directed at his former boss – you can tell that Scott McLellan is a bit unhappy.

The short of it is that he says the President relied upon propaganda for the run-up to the Iraq war, and did nothing else. He didn’t tell the truth, and so on. Scott elaborates, but what caught my eye was this, by Karl Rove, the machiavellian puppetmaster behind the Bush Presidency:

Said former top aide Karl Rove, in an interview with Fox News Channel, “If he had these moral qualms, he should have spoken up about them. And frankly I don’t remember him speaking up about these things. I don’t remember a single word.”

Yes Karl, because people who stand up against their boss and possibly refuse to say what they’ve been told to say, generally keep their jobs, their pension, etc., How f***ing dumb do you think we are?

Scott wasn’t stupid, and clearly kept his mouth shut because he valued his job. Being a Press Secretary doesn’t carry as much clout as say, the National Security Advisor, or the CIA Directory, does it? Speaking out against these propagandistic speeches, and for telling the truth instead, would be like the little boy with a 10 decibel voice at the back of the class trying to be heard above the commotion of a food fight.

And besides, Karl, you were the hand up President Bush’s arse – if someone had said that the steady stream of ‘Saddam has chemical trucks’, ‘He’ll nuke Israel’, ‘Trust me’, was plain ridiculous, seriously – what would you have done to him?

I sincerely hope that the American people choose someone next time with more than a few active brain cells, I really do.

I was really looking forward to seeing the , it’s always exciting, and in such tight confines, lots of accidents and close calls. Not like large circuits where you have plenty of space, the drivers are really in a tight place there.

Lewis started out well, but after his wall accident really had to push it. Filled up with fuel they really were on the edge, trying out a new strategy. It really was something to sit and be glued to, the racing was thrilling. Lots of accidents, collisions, and broken bits and pieces, this is how racing should be!

He hung on even though the rain was stopping, and McLaren took a chance putting slicks on but it was worth it, he pulled away from the pack slowly but surely even though the safety car had been out once or twice.

Is this Lewis‘ season? Can he win the crown?

I just caught the end of the Manchester Utd v Chelsea match, the penalty kick phase. God how close. Ronaldo’s miss was just devastating, you could almost feel the fans morale drop like a stone. Terry’s penalty hitting the woodwork though, you just knew at that point that it was over. Chelsea deflated, Manchester Utd took their chance and ran. Van Der Sar’s save was fabulous and just in time.

Not sure why but my right knee is really causing me problems, hurting like hell! I haven’t banged it and it’s been pretty much constant for weeks now. I’ve tried ibuprofen but it doesn’t help. I called the doctor’s today and they don’t have appointments past 5pm (how stupid is that, how can anyone who “works” get a doctor’s appointment?).

I’ll have to use my friday afternoon to see one I guess, and I know they’ll say take it easy or some such bullshit and not actually help.

Music must be something we all enjoy, there’s so much of it!

There’s some that you just love listening to over and over. Strange stuff too. I like the Call of Duty 4 music and the theme tune to Battlestar Galactica. Not exactly hitting the high notes of the charts I know, but still stuck in my head.

I happened to watch the FA Cup Final yesterday, not something I usually do but I thought I would because it wasn’t between the big teams, it promised to be interesting. It was not. I didn’t think either side played too well, Cardiff had some good chances and were really pushing in the second half, and Portsmouth looked like they were falling apart at points, but it was all in all not an exciting cup final.

Still, good to see some non-Premiership teams playing in the cup final, that’s how football should be.
