From a political point of view there is one reason you can see why - perhaps he wanted his soon-to-be predecessor have a try, and if he failed, to take the blame.

obama was silent about Gaza 'because he was not yet the president', however he launced many other plans yet like for the economy and closing Guantanamo Bay (very good plan by the way!!).
Earlier he mentioned standing next to Israel (in his campaign). I don't expect much change in this because he is bound to the lobby's (jewish) who payed a lot campaign money. (to assure his loyaltie)

Well American media is quite adept at telling a one-sided story, and the American public is possibly one of the least-knowledgeable about world affairs, so lethal combination really.

As for Obama, he did say he wasn't President yet, so *fingers crossed* maybe he'll do something positive.

yes, especially the constant support for Israel, no matter what they do. Even the mass murder on palestinian civilians does not bother them, it seems.
I think many Americans don't even know what's really happening there, they seem to believe everthing Israel propaganda machine wants them to believe.

Therefore, even with their new president to come I have no hopes for change in that matter. (I did have that hope, untill his silence in this MO conflict).

US is giving Israel the chance to commit mass murders, and it seems even to approve.
They call (like Israel) the palestinians terrorists, which is so very wrong, they are under occupation by Israel for a long time, suffering, humiliated, their familie killed, and they are freedom fighters. Like the freedom fighters did in Holland when we were occupied by Germany so very long ago, they were called hero's (of course not by the Germans...)

I agree with you there Anke. Their policies are terrible, so much for being the beacon of the free world!

In my memory it has never happened that the US helped Palistinian cause. And I am very sure that NEVER EVER they agreed with any comment, not even the slighest, on Israel. Therefore the Palestinians are doomed to a terrible life under occupation, neverending. I think that the right of veto should be stopped, since as long 1 state can veto, the Serurity Council is only a hollow institute.
Also the behavior of US in this case brings a lot of hate in the world, and not only with arab people, I am Dutch and after all these years of terrible foreign politics my opinion of the US is very low under zero...
I can't believe what US is allowing to happen and still calling themselves civilised...
