I got a gas bill on the 8th, so basically on the 9th since I’d got home late in the evening. I paid it dutifully of course, it was a bit steep but you know, £140 for three months, given it was autumn/winter, I could deal with that.

But what got my attention was the fact that the billing period was 20th Sep to 20th Dec. So, my question is, why did it take 19 days to get a bill to me? Moving on…

On the bill, it said: ‘Please pay by 12th Jan’.

So, 4 days to pay the bill. What if I had to pay by snail mail? That doesn’t leave very long at all to get to British Gas, to be processed and deposited (assuming it’s a cheque), and then cleared. I presume by then I would probably have received a notice to pay, and so on, a waste of paper and resources.

Again, British Gas – you had what, 23/24 days to get the bill to me and it took 19 days. Pathetic.
