The news that the FCC has voted 3-2 in favour of net neutrality is good news. It allows for the development of the internet as a basic necessity such as water or air, except of course, you have to pay for it, and have the means to use it.

Interesting to note, this only applies to the US. The FCC, despite what some Americans may think, only works inside the borders of the USA, the rest of the world could give a sh*t less. But what the US does, others eventually copy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…

Also something to take note of today, Murdoch is getting closer to purchasing and controlling BSkyB. Is it right that our news is controlled by one person, shouldn’t there be plenty of competition to keep these barons honest? The EU seems to think it won’t affect competition; we’d better write to the Lancet, we’ve found a group of people that seem to have developed collective blindness all at the same time…

If you’re sensitive and easily offended, you may not want to read the rest of this.

This was sent (forwarded) to me by my father, who presumably got it from someone else, ad nauseum. Nevertheless it’s accurate, at least the part that I’m quoting. And, it’s something me and a lot of other people here in the UK feel; we also feel we’re being ignored, because of “human rights” laws, but, happily for now, at least free speech is a right we’re still afforded.

So read this, and think carefully, because I’m betting a lot of people feel the very same way.

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

For the second time, it has been so cold the gears on my mountain bike froze! I couldn’t shift gear; either the cable is getting frozen in place or the mechanism changing the gears is frozen. Mind you, it is -6C or lower right at the moment, and getting even colder, so I can see why…

It is bitterly cold, I don’t think I’ve ever known it like this here. Thank God for thick clothes and central heating!

The fascination with our weather is something British perhaps, but now I see our cousins are having just as bad a time of it too! Although admittedly, the two foot of snow in Milwaukee (was it there, I read it?) is a bit more than our one foot.

We are due some more though, and when the weather man bandies words around like ‘from Siberia’ or ‘from the Arctic Circle’, it sends a proverbial chill down your spine. Time to get stock up on tinned tuna, corned beef, taters and dried milk.

I’m still waiting on these Christmas present deliveries though …

Everything’s so bloody icy! The pavements, at least on the non-main roads, are thick with the stuff, a couple of inches in most places. The roads too. The main roads aren’t bad, they’ve lavished salt on them to say the least.

At least we can work tomorrow, but it’ll be a nightmare getting there and back with the ice. Not sure if I should walk or bike?

Isn’t it a little convenient that someone like that man who tweeted that an airport should be bombed is prosecuted for it, yet the canadian Prof Flanagan who called for Mr Assange to be assassinated and Mr Huckabee who said he should be executed is not?

Don’t all three acts, the twitter, and the two pundits, require a similar amount of forethought, and have more or less the same end goal, the death of someone?

Just because WikiLeaks has caused some controversy (some say lives have been put at risk, but no evidence of that has surfaced, has it?) doesn’t mean the law on should be set aside.

Understandably, Canada may not have similar laws to the UK regarding hate speech, but I’m sure the US does, so it makes me wonder why a virulent cleric can spew hate and get jailed, but the canadian political advisor and the president-wannabee can get away scott-free!

I thought I’d never say this in my entire life, but I think I’m in danger of being snowed in!

Up to today we had perhaps 8-10 inches of snow, and sticking around too, freezing each night with more deposited on top. Then today came along. It’s been snowing fairly constantly all day, thick and thin, but still snowing. And it’s 4pm and still going.

Took some great photos though, will get them all uploaded to flickr or yfrog if I can and post a link. You know things are bad when the great big church (one of the largest steeples in the UK) only a few hundred feet away is nearly obscured by the snow falling!

Still, all in all, a very nice picturesque scene out the window. Very white christmassy feeling.

It snowed over the weekend, and last night, so this morning we had about two inches to get through to work. Yeah I know, doesn’t sound much but when you don’t see snow for years, it certainly is!

Biking to work wasn’t that bad actually, not that much ice except frozen slush underneath the snow.

But today it snowed. And snowed. So we had another inch or two to bike through, although we left work early because of the traffic issues. Lincs FM said Louth was a ‘black spot’ because of all the ice, and it was, you could see the black ice forming very thick.

The weather report doesn’t look too encouraging, more snow overnight and tomorrow, so it looks like it’s going to be an early white christmas. I’ll try to take some pics if I can, and post the ones I have too.

Unbelievable! One of the best sites on the ‘net right now, is fubar!

I went to the BBC iPlayer site, looking for some good programs, searched for one, got a 500 error, then a 404 error, then clicked on a link in a list of available programs and got the same thing!

Went to the homepage, and the list of TV programs is now absolutely gone with this error:

The TV Channels schedule list is temporarily unavailable due to a technical problem.

Fabulous! Now I suppose I’ll have to do some work.

This afternoon Hootsuite has been up and down. I tried to tweet earlier but it crashed on me. I couldn’t get to Tweetdeck at the time either.

Then just now, after trying to tweet again, it crashed again!

What’s up Hootsuite?
