Germany 4 – England 1

It says it all. What a debacle. I love that word, but I don’t love the team.

I know I may be stepping on many toes, but for all that Rooney is built up to be, he’s shit as a striker, at least for England. If it’s a matter of supporting him properly, then the manager is doing a bad job. At Man Utd he seems to do well, but every time I see him play for England, he’s just not there.

And that disallowed goal, or really it wasn’t even that. That should change the rules if anything does. We need video playback, a fifth official to keep the ref informed of what really happened. That was a goal, no quibbling about it. No doubt Jerry will crow about them getting their own back after the ’66 final.

Terrible.

I honestly thought that this was supposed to be the Football World Cup, not the World Swimming Championships.

The amount of people that continually dive and dive is disgusting. Drogba just now did it, was down on the ground waiting for the ref but when he didn’t blow the whistle, all of a sudden Drogba‘s back on his feet and playing again.

This is not football, it’s drama on a large green stage, and bad drama at that!

I think that FIFA should introduce a fifth official to watch replays. If they notice diving without a touch, or just blatant diving as a whole, they should inform the referee and the player should get a yellow card. Do that often enough and the diving will slowly fade away.

Here’s another one, Daniele de Rossi:

Is this really what world class football has come to? Don’t football players have any respect for themselves? Don’t referee’s get sick of it, and why don’t they give out yellow cards when they see it?

I just watched England play Algeria.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw, and I got a text from a friend saying:

That’s a right joke I think me and you could of done better

And that’s about right. England played shit. They simply didn’t look like professional footballers. Why didn’t Fabio take Walcott? And why won’t he EVER play Crouch from the beginning, and always brings him on as a substitute? And what is this slavish devotion to 4-4-2?

We barely held our own and some of our players just didn’t look when they passed, Rooney kicking it without looking and straight to the other team, back passes to the goalie that were under-strength, and crosses that just sailed into nowhere.

There is no way we can call ourselves contenders for the World Cup. We’re barely almost-rans!

We are 60% salt water, so why have we evolved to drink only fresh water? Weird isn’t it?

Anyway, this one has been bugging me for a while now, thought I’d just throw it out there in case anyone knew!

The first goal showed a promise which was rarely seen again. In fact throughout the entire game, there were flashes of brilliance, but England just didn’t seem to want to capitalize on them.

The USA, when pushed by england, really looked like it was collapsing, but then England would play that stupid game of kicking it between the defenders and the goalie, letting the USA recover.

Of course, the goalie mishap didn’t help, and I can imagine millions of hearts jumping when that happened. I bet they’ll all get a roasting from Capello, and downright deserve it, we could have had a win without that, instead of a draw.

Watched the Uruguay/France match tonight, and also caught a bit of the opener this afternoon, and I have to say that these vuvuzela horns are bloody annoying. To say they add to the atmosphere of the game may be true, in the flesh, but not on TV.

I wonder if the TV networks can introduce some kind of noise dampening when they broadcast to get rid of the sound of the horns? The opener this afternoon was louder, but then again it was South Africa playing, so it was to be expected.

For the first time in forever, I actually had a good night’s sleep. And by good I mean, I slept past 6am without waking at all. In fact I slept up to 8:30am then in a dream, annoyingly, I heard this ringing sound. One of those abstract moments your mind starts wondering what it could be.

It was the phone. GRRRRRR. I wonder how long I would have slept if I hadn’t have been woken up?

Our nation suffers from a delusion. That delusion is that, in the 13 years of power Labour has had, they’ve added 900,000 jobs for the public sector, and that the general electorate seems to believe that that’s “wealth” for the country.

Many, many, of the public sector workers earn more, if not nearly double, the average wage. How is that right in a capitalist society? Surely private industry should pay more, or at least, equal? This is where the wealth of a nation is generated.

How secret can it be with a film crew or two along for the ride? The gasps and ‘oh my gosh’ reactions of people are ridiculous.

Again, this is just staged nonsense, just like all these reality shows. I’m not at the stage of begging for Big Brother to come back mind you, but just saying that the falseness of the Secret Millionaire show is just emblematic of our TV culture, fluff for fluff’s sake.

Not a bad job at all on the iPlayer redesign. Currently it’s still in Beta, but I think it’s a real improvement on the one currently there, and that one wasn’t too bad either. Not sure if people not from the UK can see it, but it has sliding panels left/right that you can use to navigate categories.

I suppose that with the news that they’re integrating it all with social media (twitter et al) and allowing other networks’ content to be played on there, they had to do it for ease of use. As good a time as any!
