Why is it that I wait until 11 at night to listen to music, and now it’s midnight and the Stan Getz track rolls around, Summertime, what a great track, what a great piece of true jazz!

I don’t know what it is, but I think somewhere, genetically, I’m more of a night owl. Friends, family, will all say that I’m not a morning person (image: picture Oscar from Sesame Street). I’m definitely more awake at night, wide awake still now.

I’m a big fan of Coldplay, loved their music for years now. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of albums over the past couple of years but let me set that straight now, their new album, Viva la Vida, is great! Definately worth the wait, for sure. I would recommend this for anyone, and it’s not the same music as previous albums, there’s some new elements in almost reminiscent of the Beatles’ late stuff.

Music must be something we all enjoy, there’s so much of it!

There’s some that you just love listening to over and over. Strange stuff too. I like the Call of Duty 4 music and the theme tune to Battlestar Galactica. Not exactly hitting the high notes of the charts I know, but still stuck in my head.

Now we own a bank. A rundown out-of-pocket bank. A bank that the government (us, the gullibly stupid taxpayers) had to bail out to the tune of God knows how many billions. And now we the government owns it:

Northern Rock is to be nationalised as a temporary measure, Chancellor Alistair Darling has said.

Neither of the two private proposals to take over the beleaguered bank offered “sufficient value for money to the taxpayer”, Mr Darling said.

The strange thing is though, that Virgin was interested in the bank. And we know that Virgin does tend to run profitable businesses. It’s not like Sir Richard would take over a losing firm, now would he? Darling didn’t think so though, and Sir Richard made his thoughts known:

Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson criticised the government’s decision: “We believe we had a very strong proposal, an experienced team and one of Britain’s best brands.

“We believe nationalisation is not the right answer and that a commercial solution would have been the best way forward.”

Back to the Labour of the 1970′s. Not that I remember it mind you, but it’s frightening nonetheless.

The Audi R8 advert has a great song on it, by Simone White (yes I had to look it up to find it) called ‘the Beep Beep song’. It’s a bit short though, disappointingly, but I might try to get her album if it comes out (is it even out yet?).

A friend of mine, Mel, jumped on MSN tonight and was there when I got back and logged in (because my stupid computer crashed for no reason). Anyway, she told of this new band she said I would like. The song I listened to on their site wasn’t bad, so I thought I would just write a quick post about them – A Band Called Pain.

I listened to Queen’s Greatest Hits last night and their first song, Bohemian Rhapsody, has been going around my head all day long. I just found myself doing a bit of work and humming it. Not too fond of Bicycle Race, but all the other tunes on the album are great.

CDs 2 and 3 however, aren’t so good as the first. Nevermind, they’re all ‘good’ per se.

I heard an ‘old’ album yesterday while at the gym – Prodigy’s ‘Fat of the Land’. It’s been hell of a long time since I heard it, so I decided to go dig it out. Great album, and after listening to Oli say so many times, yes Oli, it’s good gym music.

Well, good music as well as what I was listening to previously, .

At work for the past week there has been a few conversations about the new rules that have come into effect about the top 40 and music bands. Now they don’t need a CD release to get into the top 40 – as long as they are selling bona fide copies of a given song digitally.

It may sound like some old songs from the past might race up the charts, Slade at Christmas for example, Queen songs, The Beatles etc., Today it appears that it might have happened, and with a new band – .

I saw that in a BBC article, and was amazed it had happened so quickly. Something made me laugh at the end though:

The bulk of Koopa’s followers are teenagers who are buying the single using a mobile phone rather than an online store, Mr Raymond believes.

It costs £1.50 to send a text message and receive a code to download the song on a computer.

“The average 16-year-old doesn’t have a credit card but they’ve got a mobile phone,” the manager explains.

Clearly the manager doesn’t know 16-year-olds or the current state of financial bulk mail.
