I know that sounds callous and uncaring, but I’m not. I feel for those in need in <del datetime="2008-05-09T15:26:19+00:00">Burma</del> Myanmar, I do. But what irks me, and I’m sure a lot of other people, is that in their time of need they won’t let Western aid workers in to help. These are people who have a lot of experience and can really make a difference between say, 20,000 dead and ultimately perhaps 100,000 dead.

Really though, I get angry when I see that the Myanmar authorities have impounded our aid, refused access to our aid workers, and then have the gall to show generals giving out food packets to one or two people, like that would help! We’re talking hundreds of thousands in trouble and in need, one or two old generals walking around handing out rice isn’t going to do much is it?

I bet they’ve even re-packaged our aid so it has the military stamp on it, like it came from them.

So that’s why I say to myself, why are we helping them? What good would it do? Even Iran, a supposedly intractable enemy let aid workers in when that massive earthquake hit a few years back. Korea accepts aid and doesn’t care who from. What’s so special about Myanmar?

New news – UN has halted food shipments to Myanmar.
