I have to ask the question – why is the US thinking of injecting billions into the big car companies?
For decades they’ve been making money from the average US citizen, and in fact the rest of us too with exports, making it hand over fist some might say. Then they get into a little bit of trouble, have no money reserves (bad business practice that!) and go begging to the US government.
Surely making more and more expensive cars, big gas guzzlers, and sinking too little into high efficiency engines which by many accounts are possible, or alternative fuels, new types of engine and so on, has got them into this as much as the credit crunch?
They say they’re having problems with day to day running costs, so why can’t they get their accountants together and sort out what they can axe, who they can fire, what expense accounts they can get rid of? Jumping on the bandwagon with their hands held out just seems to me to be a failure in and of itself.
Giving them $15 billion isn’t going to change anything at all. It’ll be business as usual and they’ll be coming back to the government asking for more.
