This weekend it came to it: I deleted over 500 accounts on my blogs. Mostly with email addresses from Poland and Russia, obviously spammers or people trying to take advantage of some xml wordpress bug or something.

I shut off the registration too, so that might slow them down. I’m just so sick of getting emails about account signups and seeing they’re coming from Poland. I mean come on, 300 accounts from people in Poland on an english-speaking blog?

Fixed one or two issues with the blogs too, the stupid ShareIt plugin is gone, I’ll hardcode in things like that from now on or make my own plugin for it.

Don’t worry Mac, I’ll fix the comment thing this week too!

I have had a request from someone to take my OpenAir WP theme to Drupal and so over the past week I have been messing around with it. Although I think that Drupal is a bit more complex than WordPress for theming purposes, and I am far more comfortable with WP, I think I could get used to it and maybe port a few more themes over.

One of the things I’ve noticed is that the Drupal has the administration theme built in to the overall theme package, if you want it. Not a good thing though, from my perspective. The themes I’ve been examining to find out how they did it, have all the css mixed in and not in what I would call order. Picky I know, but I like the page structure to come first, then the bits and pieces like text, links etc.,

Should be finished soon anyway, and I’ve been testing it on testblog6.

As you might have noticed if you have an account on this blog, I have recently updated the login page. This is part and parcel of custom wordpress theme work, but many designers don’t bother with the login page and to be honest, neither have I until recently.

It’s very straightforward, and takes about the same amount of time to customise as say, designing the single post page for a theme. Not very long and if you want it to be the same as your own blog or even a little more integrated, that’s possible too (take a look at the login page for Balanced News Blog, it’s built right in).

DOH! I just updated WP and overwrote the login page. Argh!
