Germany 4 – England 1

It says it all. What a debacle. I love that word, but I don’t love the team.

I know I may be stepping on many toes, but for all that Rooney is built up to be, he’s shit as a striker, at least for England. If it’s a matter of supporting him properly, then the manager is doing a bad job. At Man Utd he seems to do well, but every time I see him play for England, he’s just not there.

And that disallowed goal, or really it wasn’t even that. That should change the rules if anything does. We need video playback, a fifth official to keep the ref informed of what really happened. That was a goal, no quibbling about it. No doubt Jerry will crow about them getting their own back after the ’66 final.

Terrible.

I just watched England play Algeria.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw, and I got a text from a friend saying:

That’s a right joke I think me and you could of done better

And that’s about right. England played shit. They simply didn’t look like professional footballers. Why didn’t Fabio take Walcott? And why won’t he EVER play Crouch from the beginning, and always brings him on as a substitute? And what is this slavish devotion to 4-4-2?

We barely held our own and some of our players just didn’t look when they passed, Rooney kicking it without looking and straight to the other team, back passes to the goalie that were under-strength, and crosses that just sailed into nowhere.

There is no way we can call ourselves contenders for the World Cup. We’re barely almost-rans!

The first goal showed a promise which was rarely seen again. In fact throughout the entire game, there were flashes of brilliance, but England just didn’t seem to want to capitalize on them.

The USA, when pushed by england, really looked like it was collapsing, but then England would play that stupid game of kicking it between the defenders and the goalie, letting the USA recover.

Of course, the goalie mishap didn’t help, and I can imagine millions of hearts jumping when that happened. I bet they’ll all get a roasting from Capello, and downright deserve it, we could have had a win without that, instead of a draw.

*tongue in cheek*

This was mentioned the other day when I was playing COD4 with the clan, and someone posted this on the forum board. It has gotten several people into trouble, and if you go to take a look at the original link you’ll see further on down the page what I mean – here is the first paragraph which got people’s attention:

It has just been reported by Reuters that that an unnamed member of the Croatian football team has failed a substance test. If the results of the test is confirmed, under UEFA rules (para 6, sub-section 2(e), Croatia will forfeit the 3 points that the team gained from the recent European 2008 qualifier with England, and the English team will be off to compete in next year’s European Championship Finals.

You tried hard. You failed. But you can keep your heads high, you didn’t fold and you didn’t give up. Good job South Africa, maybe next time the shoe’ll be on the other foot. Like one of the commentators said, England kept on piling into South Africa’s line right next to the scrum, when they should have been passing along the line and trying another point of attack, I think that was their main weakness. Oh yes, and the try that wasn’t given…

Now Lewis Hamilton must hold the hopes of the nation as he gets ready for the Brazil Grand Prix. God I hope he makes it, because we can’t count on the english football team that’s for sure…
